ABOUT REGINE CABATO

I am a journalist based in Manila, currently reporting on the Philippines for the Washington Post. I\'ve covered culture, politics, human rights, and women\'s issues among other subjects. I have sat in a troll farm operation, reported on the stalled rehabilitation of a war-torn city, and did a year-long deep-dive into a rape case against a parish priest in rural Philippines. My commentary has been featured on ABC, BBC, and CNN, among others. Outside of journalism, my poetry has appeared in various publications in the Philippines, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. My ten-poem suite \"Notes from the Field\" won the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award in 2019. In my free time, I co-organize workshops for student journalists through the initiative Campus Journalism Lab. I come from Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.
