ABOUT REBECCA ANDERSON

Educator, writer, editor, and communication strategist that is happiest getting resources where they are needed most. Community collaboration and student focus underline a lifelong love of language, learning, and service. Raising my two daughters and working in my community brought me to education and teaching. While my daughter attended PreK at Goethe Elementary School in Chicago, I wrote an Illinois EPA grant that provided more than $1 million dollars to improve underground storm water retention and redesign a public school. The 21st Century Sustainable Schoolyard was dedicated in 2014. As conference director at Ragan Communications, I worked with some of the most inspired speechwriters, communicators and futurists. Before that, I worked as Ragan\'s managing editor for three years, editing a talented group of writers from all over North America. My time as a Chicago freelance journalist included two years at The Chicago Reporter, where I won a National Press Club and local Headline Club award for investigative journalism. I also worked as an Agence France Presse stringer reporter and as online editor for Tribune Media Services. My first job after university came as communications coordinator for a community organizing group in Chicago as an Americorps VISTA volunteer (like the Peace Corps but domestic). While building my freelance career, I modeled with Ford and Elite in Chicago for more than a decade. Since becoming a parent, I enjoy teaching yoga to children and, for the year before I left Chicago, to women incarcerated at Cook County Jail. I moved to Culver City in 2014 and quickly became a substitute teacher for CCUSD and a Girl Scout leader. I served as PTA President at El Marino Language School, a public Japanese and Spanish immersion elementary school for 850 students, from 20••••20. During the pandemic, I worked as a a communications strategist at Seelig and Cussigh, a health care consultancy, producing a weekly newsletter, podcasts and zoom/live events. I continue as a committed lover of language, music, art, and community service as I earn my teaching credential and Masters in Education/Dual Language at Cal State University Dominguez Hills.
