Redesigned Petco.com frontend architecture to meet certain quality requirements wrt to performance and scalability- Setup multi-region active-active setup from active-passive. Thereby ensuring high availability and scalability. It helped to run a smooth peak holiday season in 2023- Moved from a legacy Next.js v12 setup that was using Cloudfront to Next.js v13 AWS deployment without Cloudfront saving $240k per year. Cloudfront was not required as there is Cloudflare already in place for CDN- Improved Google core web vitals score from ~4.5s in PDP to ~1.9s by optimizing code, cache rules and dynamic imports. All the public pages were improved wrt to LCP, First byte and CLS- Setup automated environment based deployment using Gitlab pipelines, Gitlab APIs, terraform, Gitlab terraform state manager and Hashicorp vault- Implemented Edge-side-include feature in PLP page to implement a dynamic SSR page, but having the positives of cached static header and footer. Resulted in better Web vitals score and at the same time showing dynamic and personalized browse results to customers.
