I’m an avid freedive spearfisherman - a passion that involves diving to depths of 10 to over 100 feet with nothing but a snorkel, fins, and a speargun or pole spear. No tanks. Just breath-hold, focus, and precision.Interestingly, I’ve found that freedive spearfishing mirrors the principles that drive professional success.Preparation is everything. Whether it’s conditioning your body to hold your breath for minutes at a time or preparing to lead a high-stakes presentation, success begins long before you dive in. In business that means bringing the right tools; things like market insights, clear plans, a compelling narrative, or whatever else is required.Organization is critical. In the ocean, this means scouting locations, prepping gear, and prepping the boat. In the professional world, it’s about structuring project plans, developing roadmaps, forecasting revenue, aligning teams, etc.Adaptability is non-negotiable. Conditions shift quickly underwater… equipment fails, targets move, breath runs thin. You adjust on the fly.
