ABOUT RAQUIBUL ISLAM

Raquibul Islam (Raquib) works as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, current position - Senior Engineer at BC Hydro. Last 25 years he has been working for heavy civil geotechnical and construction projects. He started his engineering career in Arizona following graduation from the Northern Arizona University in He has twenty-four (24) years of experience in the areas of civil multidisciplinary projects. Raquib has extensive experience in volcanic, fluvial; aeolian; marine; glacial till; and permafrost geotechnical engineering. He has worked on a variety of challenging projects those relating to commercial, infrastructural, industrial, waste-water, mining (oil sand – tailing management, dam, dikes, cut-off wall, etc.), oil sand, pipeline, power transmission line, public works and government projects. His geotechnical experience includes various types of deep and shallow foundations, slope stability assessment and analysis; seepage analysis, pile load testing, instrumentation (slope indicator, piezometers, monitoring well, pneumatic, vibratory wire piezometers installation, etc.), retaining structure design, estimating settlement, seismic analysis, pavement and permafrost design projects. Mr. Islam also worked as a Geotechnical Engineer of Record that includes inspection and materials testing (soil, asphalt, concrete, roller compacted concrete -RCC, etc.); and Quality Assurance / Quality Control – QA/QC) services. Project management for numerous commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects that requires coordinating, budgeting, scheduling and customer relations, are also his area of expertise beside engineering practice safely and efficiently. In 2003, he migrated to Canada, Currently, he holds registrations as a professional engineer in the province of British Columbia. Beside the Professional Practice, he is also a Marathon Runner and completed nine Marathons around the world.
