ABOUT PETER WINSLOW

As a high energy particle physicist, you learn to love working with data! I have a wide range of experience in simulating, gathering, manipulating, filtering, analyzing, and interpreting large amounts of high-dimensional data. In that role, I was strongly interested in searching for the subtle signatures of new particles and fundamental forces possibly left behind in the messy collisional debris produced in experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider. The analytical techniques used for this, physical intuition + model building + statistical analysis + computing know-how + communication, also have large overlap with the interests of many companies in the technology and financial sectors. In my current role, I am very excited about the chance to apply these skills in a more business-oriented direction.Data science skill set:Parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, optimization, machine learning (linear and logistic regression, boosted decision trees, random forests, k-NN, k-means, neural networks), Monte Carlo methods, web scraping, data visualizations.Computing skill set:Python, Mathematica, Matlab, bash shell, git.Data analysis toolkit:NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Pyplot, machine learning with scikit-learn, Hadoop, Spark, Jupyter notebooks.Proven track record:My scientific work has resulted in 10 published papers, as well as 2 currently in peer-review. I have also presented these results at 10+ international conferences, workshops, and seminars.
