ABOUT PITA S. JUAREZ
A queer, immigrant woman of Guatemalan descent, Pita Juarez is a filmmaker, strategist, storyteller, organizer, and creative, based in Phoenix. With roots in the progressive movement in Arizona, Pita challenges the “status quo” by shifting cultural narratives and uplifting unspoken stories while transcending traditional media boundaries in the fight for social justice. With an overarching organizing framework grounded in political advocacy and investigative journalism, Juarez’s work builds bridges across sectors by cultivating an innovative approach to movement storytelling. Her work has been featured in the National Geographic, CNN Latino, Remezcla, NPR, Univision and is a critically-acclaimed director and producer of the award-winning documentary “You Racist, Sexist Bigot”, integrated into curriculums at Arizona State University and Maricopa County Colleges, and “La Morena”, featured in The University of Arizona’s Libraries Special Collection. Pita Juarez continues to be a vital force at the intersection of filmmaking and justice. Upon having her work featured with The Redford Center, The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and as the Communications Creative Strategies Director for Chispa, a national program of the League of Conservation Voters, Pita Juarez has been named a 2022 Grist 50 Fixer for Arts & Media as an innovative creative at the forefront of shaping a new climate narrative.
