ABOUT PETER BATISTA
Peter Batista serves as the Carolinas Lead Reliability Strategy Engineer for Duke Energy. He serves as a subject matter expert in Distribution, providing visibility into existing reliability trends and technical support for reliability and asset management programs, and advising leadership on engineering and operational strategic opportunities.Peter has years of leadership, engineering management, business development, and customer relationship management experience. Before assuming his current position in June 2018, Peter was responsible for business development and marketing of Pike’s Engineering group. He secured multi-year, and multi-million-dollar, projects with major investor-owned utilities (IOUs), and served as the customer’s primary point of contact, adequately resourced working groups, developed and established processes and procedures, led training efforts to ensure job readiness, and managed all aspects of the project lifecycle (statement of work, work breakdown structure, budgeting, invoicing, timeline, scope, and deliverables). Prior to that, Peter worked as a Utility Engineer for the Electric Division of the Public Staff of the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC), where he served as a subject matter expert responsible for utility distribution system service adequacy and reliability, interpretation and application of utility service rules and regulations, and the investigation of customer inquiry and complaints. Mr. Batista has been involved in Distribution Grid Modernization efforts for nearly 15 years, starting as an engineer performing Volt-Var Optimization studies for Progress Energy’s Distribution System Demand Response (DSDR) project in 2009, and eventually leading system improvement and FLISR projects as a Senior Consultant and Project Manager for large IOUs. Peter’s technical projects included modeling and analysis of distribution systems, protective coordination studies, distribution system design, GIS design, distribution operations, asset management, outage management, and reliability analysis.
