What keeps me awake is my constant drive to make an impact. And when it comes to Finance (I cannot deny that this has pulled through as the focus of my career) I am a strong advocate of a modern interpretation of the Finance Manager / CFO role. There are core responsibilities of a Finance role: clean books & records, safeguarding the cash flow, ensuring the compliance with laws & regulations as well as reliable planning for future business success. At the same time, internal processes (based on relevant and efficiently structured data!) have to be lean / automatized / digitalized to support (and not hinder) the overall business goal. Finance cannot only be just internally focused, but has to always reflect the customer perspective - and that requires more and more thinking in digital business models and approaches. A Finance Manager has to not just think numbers, but also strategy! To get things done I involve myself deeply in operations if needed. Colleagues would describe my leadership style as inclusive - trying to lead by goals with strong focus on team motivation. Win and failure is always tied to how happy and motivated the team is.
