ABOUT LEANDRO PECCHIA
Leandro Pecchia is passionate of science and tecnology for health: as biomedical engineering has revolutionised biology and medicine, it is time now that it focuse on global heatlh!Prof Pecchia has been leading several research projects, some with his current lab at UCBM, in Rome, and some at the University of Warwick, UK, for a total value of more than €100milion, of which more than €8.5milions for the labs he directs. This project involved more than 100 partner institution and hundreds of bright women and men, from key policymaking institutions (e.g, WHO, European Commission JRC), top universities and research centres from EU, US and Africa, leading companies from MedTech (e.g, Medtronics, Philips, Samsung, Siemens), pharma (e.g, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Lilly, Takeda), medical software, information systems and IT (i.e, Engineering, HP, Dedalus)- GATEKEEPEP, ODIN, https://odin-smarthospitals.eu/- Afya Moja, http://afyamoja.it/- ENKORE, https://enkoreecohealthcare.eu/- GRACE, EPoCA, coordinate the re-writing of two WHO policy books- Guidelines on medical devices donation. https://iht.unicampus.it/who-medical-device-donation/- WHO Policies on Medical Devices (expected in 2025),Prof Pecchia has been supervised 23 PhD students and mentored 10 early career scholars, of which 13 are now lecturers in 7 top universities. He supervised hundred of BSc and MSc students too, serving UoW and UCBM as Director of Studies.Prof Pecchia authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, medical devices, biomedical signal processing, Health Technology Assessment (HTA), and Internet of Things, focusing on active and healthy ageing, management of chronic diseases, global health.Prof Pecchia is the Secretary General of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), and NGO in official relations with the WHO, and the Past President of the European scientific society of biomedical engineering (EAMBES). In the past, he served the international community of biomedical engineers as Secretary General (2018-22) of the International scientific society of medical physics and biomedical engineering (IUPESM), Treasurer (2018-25) of the IFMBE Clinical Engineering Division, and IFMBE Healthcare Technology Assessment Division Chair (2015-18) and Treasurer (2012-15).
