ABOUT PAUL BESKOW
Do you remember the first time you knew what you wanted to be when you grew up? I was 16 when my Uncle Larry saw my aptitude for math and science and suggested that I look into engineering. Not knowing much of what civil engineers did, I researched the profession and was immediately enthralled. Now, as a licensed Professional Engineer (Oregon) my work could not be more than what I dreamed of as a high-schooler. Every day, I am able to design dredging projects, utilities, buildings, and stormwater facilities that tangibly improve the lives of those within my community and help construct a sustainable and environmentally-conscious infrastructure. My experience spans public and private sectors, which provides me with a unique perspective of how every project I am involved with spans the agendas, needs, and interests of the client, regulators, financial stakeholders, interested public parties, and the impacted community. As a staff civil engineer at AKS, I can bring this balanced and conscientious approach to every project on which I get involved; my training as an environmental engineer provides me the requisite background to increase the sustainable component of every design, and; my experience with a variety of stakeholders and sizes of communities has informed my understanding of how to pragmatically achieve the wide-ranging objectives I always need to consider while simultaneously remaining within budget and schedule. My professional passions are water resources, assisting under-served communities, toxin remediation in the environment, groundwater remediation, fighting climate change, and ocean engineering. I am an avid runner and bicyclist; I love the outdoors and to hike, camp, and kayak; and I am passionate about woodworking, cooking, antiquing, and spending time with friends and family.
