ABOUT PATRICK WILKS
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher.I love school. I love the fast-paced environment, the books, learning new things, the sense of community, and the excitement of new ideas and possibilities. In my own life, I have been blessed with such wonderful teachers who taught me discipline and self-confidence in a way that I can never fully thank them. What I admired the most about my best teachers was not only their passion for making their subjects come to life, but more importantly their compassion and deep-rooted believe that every child has the potential to succeed. I would never have been able to explore my specific interests in the Humanities had it not been for the enthusiasm and the kindness of my teachers. I am seeking opportunities in the education field because I feel as if it is my duty to try and pass some of this infectious enthusiasm on from those who guided me so that my future students can also feel that sense of accomplishment and excitement in their interests. I might also just crave an excuse to discuss my really good books with people over and over all day.My past experiences have shown me that there are many different forms of teaching than just leading a classroom. Between my experiences in my college years and my past year at Match, I have worked as a tutor for both small groups and one-on-one instruction, a co-teacher, a COVID-19 online distance educator, a curriculum writer, a museum employee, an English instructor for adults, a dodgeball coach, an extracurricular designer and leader, a chaperone, and a dormitory adviser. I have encountered many different populations and worked in a public, private, and charter school setting. This has led me to becoming open to many different opportunities that I may never have considered before. In addition to the school world, I have a deep interest in museums and any industry that involves a passion for reading and writing. In the future, I am looking forward to putting these skills to good use in order to help children find their path and succeed in life.
