ABOUT OMID GOORAN
I am a Lead Structural Engineer at Jacobs, specializing in large-scale, multi-disciplinary Electronics and Life Sciences projects. I hold Structural Engineer (SE) in Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license across multiple States. My expertise covers the design and condition assessment of various structural systems, including steel, concrete, multi-story cold-formed steel, pre-engineered metal buildings, and wood-framed buildings. Additionally, I have a proven track record of project development, proposal writing and client management. A key professional passion of mine is enhancing the service life of existing structures. Alongside designing new durable structures, I excel in performing structural condition assessments, developing repair recommendations and preparing construction documents to extend the longevity of structures. My research background is centered on the application of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite bars in construction to build long-lasting concrete structures. It includes numerical modeling of GFRP-RC structures and experimental studies on GFRP materials such as bond properties to concrete, post-fire behavior, and micro-structural investigation. Moreover, I was responsible for instrumentation and monitoring of implemented FRP reinforcements in construction of two pedestrian bridges at the University of Miami. I am honored to serve as a voting member of the ACI subcommittee 440-H: FRP-Reinforced Concrete. My work has been published in numerous top-ranked peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. I also contribute to the academic community as a peer reviewer for several journals including Engineering Structures, Non-Destructive Testing & Evaluation, Sustainability and, Polymer.
