ABOUT OLLIE LAKE
In July of 2021, following some extensive work experience with multiple companies in the industry, I had the opportunity of becoming a Trainee CAD Technician with Amey. During my time there, I was fully trained in CAD and BIM practices (primarily using Microstation and ProjectWise) and later advanced into the CAD Technician role. Whilst working as a CAD Technician, I gained experience training new team members, worked with multiple disciplines to create 3D models, and presented 3D models in design reviews and signal sighting meetings. In February 2023, I became a BIM Lead for a route section on the Core Valley Lines project. This involved managing a larger combined model, covering all Civils\' designs within that route section. In July of 2024, I decided to move into a new post within Network Rail, working with the Wales and Western RADAM (Regional Asset Data and Analysis) team. In this role, I am the lead on signal sighting from a virtual railway (VR) perspective. This involves creating 3D virtual replicas of the railway. Whilst creating these models, I am undertaking work towards building an accurate 3D virtual railway that encapsulates the whole Wales & Western region. This is held in iTwin, enabling connectivity to further tools for visualisation, such as Unreal Engine.Nominated as a finalist at Year in Infrastructure 2025.
