ABOUT NORMAN SAWERS
Throughout my career, I\'ve cared about and been actively involved in applying technology as a force for positive change. My journey has been defined by roles in the early adoption of Computer Aided Design (Academy), Enterprise Document Management (McLaren, now Idox), and Enterprise Search (FAST, now Microsoft). Each step of my professional path has been guided by a common sense belief: technology should serve humanity, not the other way around. As we face the next wave of technological change, I see AI not just as a powerful tool, but as a challenge to apply it wisely and ethically. The purpose of my current role is to help UK government agencies grasp the new possibilities offered by AI-driven automation. By taking advantage of Appian\'s AI-powered process automation platform, I\'m not just implementing technology – I like to think that I\'m helping UK government improve the ways in which it serves its citizens.Appian\'s approach blends low-code agility with a clear focus on efficiency, cost reduction, and most importantly, creating meaningful impact for the public and civil servants alike.I continue to improve my own understanding of AI and try to help to demystify its practical application in public services; especially in areas of national security. My goal is simple: to help public sector teams use automation and AI in ways that are practical, responsible, and ultimately in the service of citizens.
