As the chief executive in Maine for AARP, I work with the highly skilled staff and an equally dedicated volunteer corps to create and maintain a successful AARP strategic plan that enables AARP to achieve its vision in the state of Maine. I am responsible for developing AARP’s presence in communities within the state and establishing an extensive network of relationships with external state and local partners. I maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in AARP to ensure a seamless interface between the state and the national office in implementing national and state priorities. As the State Director, I shoulder primary responsibility for management of programs, people, processes and translating policy for AARP in the state, and define AARP’s influence and sustained presence. I provide management, coaching, feedback and opportunities for staff development to my direct reports while supporting their pursuit to develop leadership skills. I work as a liaison with regional, States & Communities, and State and National Group leadership in addition to other Association business unit colleagues to enhance, engage, and sustain membership and the 50+ population in the state.
