Director of Multicultural Outreach (2011 – Present)• Responsible for developing a targeted multicultural outreach plan that promotes awareness of and engagement with AARP.• Provides outreach to develop strong, sustainable relationships with key organizations, leaders, and volunteers to improve people’s lives. • Expands awareness of multicultural efforts among community and public policy leaders. • Participates in managing and coordinating opportunities with public-speaking.• Collaborates with and supports state and national advocacy staff to build and maintain strong, productive relationships with AARP’s grassroots structure, local leaders, and elected officials to achieve the advocacy and social impact agenda in support of multicultural communities. • Works in close partnership with staff and volunteer leads to support the state volunteer structure. Recruits and helps retain multicultural and bilingual volunteers. Creates and implements formal volunteer recognition plans. Ensures multicultural training is provided for staff and volunteers, as well as participates in training volunteers on priority issues, strategies, tactics, policies, relationship building, and state-specific political and communications processes. • Works in collaboration with state colleagues and national office partners to promote AARP’s strategic issues, priorities, programs, and activities. • Enhances AARP’s capacity to speak with relevance in targeted communities by raising awareness of needs, challenges, and opportunities.• Assists with monitoring the public dialogue about issues important to AARP and to Hispanic/Latino communities through collaborations and integration with appropriate national office colleagues. • Runs statewide Community Education Program on the issues of Medicare, Social Security, Affordable Care Act, Fraud Prevention and Finances through a network of volunteer educators, using means such as radio, social media platforms, and community presentations.
