ABOUT NICOLE FLAHERTY SHAKERLEY

As an accomplished educator and researcher, I bring over 16 years of experience in the field of Biology with extensive experience in microbiology, immunology, and antibiotic resistance. My areas of research focus include the contribution of redox regulation to antibiotic resistance and host immune responses. Additionally, I am interested in drug repurposing to develop new treatment strategies to combat antibiotic-resistant pathogens.Currently serving as an Associate Professor of Biology at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, I take pride in shaping the foundation of knowledge for our future healthcare professionals. In recognition of my dedication, I was honored with the Advisor of the Year award in 2021 and Teacher of the Year in 2023 by the ACPHS Student Government Association. In addition to my teaching role, I was recently appointed Program Director the Biomedical Technology and the Health Sciences BS Programs. This role allows me to guide students in their academic journey, from recruitment to graduation, while also providing valuable support in their pursuit of graduate studies.With over a decade of experience mentoring student researchers, I\'ve had the privilege of seeing many of them gain admission to medical schools and highly-ranked Ph.D. programs. This mentorship continues to be a tremendously rewarding aspect of my career.I am committed to furthering the impact of our Health Sciences programs through strategic partnerships and ongoing professional development.
