ABOUT NEIL DSILVA

My story is one of many parts, which I will summarise here. So, here we go - 30+ years in just 60 seconds. In my early 20\'s I enjoyed being in senior positions in retail banking, but left banking in the mid 90\'s as the industry was moving to become far more sales and targets orientated, a direction I was not too keen on. I went on to pursue a successful career in advertising and marketing (including further senior positions) from the mid 90\'s until the mid 00\'s, and in 2006 set up my own marketing agency. In the first year of trading, by the end of 2007, we had grown significantly, but alas due to the banking crisis that began in 2008, in 2010 I was forced to close the business. One of the worst days of my life, seeing a business I had started from nothing collapse due to external forces. I restarted on my own, and then in 2012 my dad died aged 66 from a condition related to undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes. That is when my journey in to nutrition began; when my mission, my raison d\'etre became apparent. In 2017, my younger brother took his life aged 36. My journey to becoming a mental health advocate and passionate mental health campaigner began shortly afterwards, and I joined Samaritans as a listening volunteer in June 2018. In April 2019 I had (and still have) the priviledge of being a Trustee of the branch of Samaritans I volunteer at, as well as being Treasurer and in April 2020 my volunteer responsiblities extended further when I became a director.Qualifications/Diplomas in:*Nutrition and Weight Management*Metabolic Rate Weight Management*The Nature and Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus*The Management of Type ll Diabetes Mellitus*Global Health Initiative: Diabetes Awareness*Royal College of Nursing (RCN) accredited course – Diabetes in Healthcare*The Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Conditions*The Psychology of Weight Management and Client Motivation*Pre & Post-Natal Nutrition and Weight Management*The Prevention of Obesity in Children*Nutrition for Sports and Exercise*Applying the Principals of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme*Level 3 Diploma in Mental Health StudiesI am committed to keeping my knowledge and research up to date and regularly attend seminars, webinars and read articles as part of my Continued Professional Development, including continued extensive studies and CPD in Nutrition and Type II Diabetes.
