ABOUT NEIL MCLAUCHLAN
I am a geologist at heart, but my career has taken me on a varied journey from offshore shallow geophysicist, to route engineer and into the power industry. Proof there is no one path, or direction needed to take. As long as you focus on CPD, collaboration and accountability, good things can happen.I now have 15+ years in various offshore industries and 5+ years as a lead and team manager, and I\'ve started to review the bigger picture within the industry.The MGeol master\'s project I undertook was a multi-scope study looking into pluton emplacement in the Pyrenees, the mechanical and rheological structures related to the La Renclusa shear zone, and the problem of accommodation space during a period of transpression. I observed the macro and micro structures by means of a structural map, as well as light microscopy and SEM analysis. In doing this multi-scale study I understand the role of carbonates in the continental crust.My BSc dissertation focussed on volcanic emplacements in Snowdonia and the structures related to compressional and extensional events.Prior to my time at university I had a scientific background, albeit in microbiology, as a laboratory technician and assistant brewer.
