Wild Forests and Fauna is an impact-driven 501C3 social enterprise that supports local leadership in conservation of wild forest frontiers. We address regional conservation issues by connecting stakeholders, building capacity in local communities, and propelling ideas into action. Within WFF, I activated two key projects: ARCAmazon Project in Peru and the Native Seeds project in partnership with Wise Women of Gulu, traditional herbalists in Gulu, Uganda. ARCAmazon project includes the establishment of a research station and conservation of acres of primary forest in Madre De Dios, Peru. We are planning restoration efforts along the corridor as well as support for indigenous partners upriver. We work in Uganda because the country has lost ⅔ of its forests over past 30 years due to civil war. It is at risk for losing all of its forest by 2050. In 2018, we planted trees, including seedlings planted with South Sudanese refugees. My role has evolved but included setting up the organization, implementing policies and guiding structures in the way we work with partners on the ground, co-designing strategy with our partners, recruiting talent including program directors and providing ongoing project support including training, resources and mentoring.

ABOUT NANCY ZAMIEROWSKI
Facilitative leadership and collaboration are common themes to my work. I am passionate about designing better ways of working and amplifying the voice and agency of those committed to making positive change. I bring 5+ years experience in nonprofit management, conservation, sustainability and supply chains, and 12+ years in media and communications. If you look up “Zam” on Wikipedia, you’ll find it means of the earth, spark and guardian. I provide in-depth support, sense-making, and precise interventions to detect blind spots or pitfalls early on in a project’s initiation. In this sense, my role is often that of a project midwife or doula, shaping the conditions for a regenerative and inclusive path forward. I am a co-founder of three social impact driven enterprises; Collective Transitions stewards social change organizations and groups through transformational shifts, Yellow Seed supports farmers in telling their stories, and Wild Forests and Fauna supports local leadership in the conservation of wild forest frontiers.
