With over a decade of experience in the field of philanthropy, I\'m currently serving as the Director of Development for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.We are not the first phone call parents make when their child is diagnosed with cancer. We top the list once families and other caring citizens become so frustrated with the limits of outdated pediatric cancer treatments that they are compelled to create durable change.At the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, funding innovative research that has a high potential for saving kids’ lives is all we do.We fund best-in-class researchers across the US. They are trailblazers who are determined to improve children’s lives by pioneering modern, developmentally appropriate cures. Cures that do as little damage to healthy cells as possible and do not leave kids with life-long secondary effects that are as harrowing as the cancers they defeated.The Foundation focuses on providing researchers with the resources to prove their early-stage ideas, then reach for even larger grants. This is critical because federal funding is not available to researchers until they can demonstrate preliminary data to prove something should advance. Without this essential support, some great ideas could be lost forever.This is tough work that takes a caring heart, a strong spine and sometimes a healthy set of lungs. At the end of each day – typically filled with comforting parents, nurturing collaborations and raising rooftops about the desperate need to raise more money to accelerate research momentum - we are privileged to move science forward and help make breakthroughs happen.
