ABOUT MONICA TINCOPA
Physician leader with experience in clinical and health outcomes research, public health and health policy. I work to develop innovative solutions to challenges faced by patients, providers and population health. I apply my expertise in obesity medicine, behavioral health, health disparities, internal medicine and transplant hepatology in combination with my training in biostatistics and clinical trial design to develop and implement interventions and care delivery that improve health outcomes. Clinically, I have specific expertise and am board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology (including endoscopy), Transplant Hepatology and Obesity Medicine. Within hepatology, my research has focused on obesity, metabolic syndrome, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), liver transplantation, cirrhosis, health disparities and health equity. As a Latina physician, I am passionate about addressing issues of health inequities for my Hispanic/Latino community.I am the founder and former director of the Michigan Medicine MASLD specialty clinic and the former Associate Director of the Michigan Medicine Metabolic Fitness Program. I was recruited to UCSD to join as a sub-investigator in the highly prolific and innovative UCSD MASLD Research Center. I have an established track record of obtaining independent grant funding (AASLD, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UCSD). I have specific expertise in biostatistics and clinical trial design obtained from my Masters in Health and Healthcare Research. Career and research mentor for undergraduates, medical students, residents, fellows and junior faculty with a particular focus on mentoring women and underrepresented individuals in medicine.
