WORK HISTORY
Machine Learning Engineer @Ocado Technology
Toronto, ON, CA
Led development of imitation learning systems for robotic manipulation in the groceries automation space, delivering major gains in accuracy, robustness, and deployment performance- Designed and built a PyTorch DAG framework for defining modular and configurable operation graphs that compile into static torch graphs with no breaks. This became the standard framework for imitation/reinforcement learning and computer vision in the Toronto office. This framework significantly reduces the difficulty of defining, training, and asynchronously executing IL/RL policies- Trained diffusion policies for 3D robotic manipulation tasks using the DAG framework, achieving higher grasp accuracy, task success, smoother motions, and greater robustness to visual perturbations and physical contacts than earlier BC methods- Performed extensive system profiling using PyTorch Profiler and NVIDIA NSYS to identify performance bottlenecks and guide targeted model and system-level optimizations- Drove major system-level performance improvements by reducing end-to-end policy execution time from ~150 ms to 3.5 ms (43x) through static, break-free graph compilation (DAG framework), GPU-accelerated JPEG decoding, and optimized data pipelines/buffers. This enabled smooth asynchronous execution and significantly reduced task failures by 70%- Established a rapid development and testing workflow, combining large-scale simulation data collection, training and validation, combined with rapid real-world iteration, enabling fast discovery of weak points and continuous improvement- Designed and implemented a cloud-based artifact-store for deploying assets (models, configurations, scenes, etc.) to robots globally, replacing manual processes and eliminating the need for code changes.
