Having joined the growing Environment Team (a small team with big ambition) I am tasked with working with others at the Combined Authority along with key local stakeholders to deliver the vision for the Natural Environment as set out in West Midlands Natural Environment Plan 20••••26 (wmca.org.uk).Key elements (but not all) of the Natural Capital Programme include- Delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for the West Midlands- Delivery of the Local Investment in Natural Capital (LINC) £1m DEFRA pilot study on attracting green finance to delivery our natural environment ambitions- Establishment of the West Midlands Forest Partnership and completion of one of the UKs largest iTree surveys- Supporting community organizations with grant funding for improving or creating new accessible greenspace in areas of high deprivation (>20 schemes delivered through the Community Green Grant scheme)

As a Senior Programme Manager with 30 years of experience in ecology, I lead strategic initiatives that deliver real impact for biodiversity, people, and climate adaptation. At the WMCA, I drive programmes such as the West Midlands Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) and pioneering nature finance work through DEFRA’s Local Investment in Natural Capital (LINC) programme. By connecting these efforts, I create a strong foundation for collaboration, enabling stakeholders to achieve ambitious environmental goals. My leadership style combines a pragmatic, professional approach with deep technical expertise, ensuring that vision is translated into practical impactful outcomes.With my experience and current role, I’m fortunate to collaborate with outstanding people and stakeholders, using my expertise to influence and enable more effective delivery of nature recovery and nature-based solutions at community, regional, and national levels.In a voluntary capacity I have been appointed to the Forest and Woodland Advisory Committee, a key part of the governance structure of the Forestry Commission. I have been recognised as a Senior Honorary Fellow at the University of Worcester for my work and I am a trustee of the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, an organisation doing some really great work for the environment at the community level.
