ABOUT MIKE VETTESE
My core area of expertise lies within the field of trade marks, with a particular emphasis on protecting brands within the music, media and entertainment industries. Being based in Aberdeen, I also have significant experience within the hydrocarbon exploration, extraction and exploitation industries, the renewable energy industry, and those companies that provide support to such. Further, I have experience in protecting and enforcing the brands of distillers and brewers, particularly in relation to beer, ale and Scotch whisky. My proactive and engaging approach to working with my clients, together with my wide-ranging experience of the music, media and entertainment industries, facilitates a synergy with all levels of management. This, coupled with my tendency for proactive reporting, ensures that appropriate action is taken in due time to protect and enforce my client’s important trade mark portfolios. My engineering background includes a 2:1 Honours degree (Sandwich Award) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Abertay Dundee, where I graduated top of my class. My focus at University was in relation to lasers and laser diodes, my interest in lasers being stimulated during my time as a light jockey and disc jockey in one of Scotland’s most famous nightclubs. I took a year out for my Sandwich award, where I worked as a production engineer within TDI Batteries in Dundee (on OEM manufacturer of battery packs for laptops, mobile phones and other applications), both within the main production lines and the specialised mixed product division. I joined Murgitroyd in 1996, initially spending my first 10 months based in the Glasgow Head Office before moving back home to provide the full range of trade mark services to a range of local, national and multi-national clients from the Aberdeen Office.Specialties: Designing, managing and enforcing multi-national trade mark portfolios; customs surveillance; anti-counterfeit measures; trade mark filing and prosecution strategies; multi-national trade mark portfolio management; protection and enforcement of trade mark rights both in the UK and abroad; International trade mark registrations under the Madrid Protocol; UK and foreign trade mark oppositions; coexistence agreements; domain name issues, including UDRP complaints.
