Property Redress Scheme is a Government approved letting agent and property management redress scheme (often known as a property ombudsman). It is essentially a mechanism for enabling a third party to deal with consumer complaints on behalf of tenants, leaseholders and landlord customers of the letting agents and property managers. It will be compulsory for all agents to be a member of an approved scheme in order to operate. Property Redress is underpinned by legislation under the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013 and applies only to England. The Law came into force on 1st October 2014.Property Redress also received authorisation from National Trading Standards to run a redress scheme for Estate Agents. This is a legal require for all Estate Agents in the UK. In addition, property professionals such as Inventory Clerks, maintenance companies and cleaning companies that provide services to the private rented sector and property managers can join our scheme on a voluntary basis. Complaints are dealt with on three levels: Help and advice for the member to resolve the complaint themselves; formal meditation and facilitation with the parties to agree a binding settlement; formal adjudication and arbitration with a binding award on the member up to where appropriate. As the Membership and Compliance Lead, I head the membership, operations, and dispute resolution functions of the scheme.
