Michael Flannigan is Vice President of Government Affairs at the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI). He is responsible for NEI\'s government affairs division which includes state, federal, and international government functions. Michael and the government affairs team represent the industry before Congress, the executive branch, state legislatures and international government bodies and forums. He is responsible for coordinating the nuclear energy advocacy with NEI members, business, labor, environmental organizations and other stakeholders, including grass root groups supporting nuclear energy. Michael started his career on Capitol Hill working for two members of the US Senate, and serving as a professional staff member of the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. After serving in the US Senate, he worked in executive corporate positions for Rio Tinto, Peabody, and Bondi Partners. His corporate experience includes serving as head of the Washington, DC, office for two Fortune 250 companies, and serving as a member of the senior management committee reporting to the CEO. Michael has broad domestic and international experience in public policy, project development, communications and environmental, social, and governance policy. He has managed teams that have successfully secured government approval for domestic and international projects and has learned that respect, collaboration, communication, and persistence are the keys to success. He earned his BS in Political Science from the University of Oregon, and his Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University. He is married to Allison Nyholm who works at the American Council on Renewable Energy. They are proud parents of Christian and Kaeje, and enjoy spending time outdoors.
