ABOUT MARZIYEH HAGHIGHAT

As a passionate biology educator with over 8 years of experience in higher education, I specialize in teaching botany, plant biology, and general biology at the community college level. I hold a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of Georgia and have extensive research experience in plant physiology, secondary cell wall biosynthesis, and xylan biosynthetic pathways.I am committed to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments where diverse student populations can thrive. I design engaging, hands-on lab activities and interactive lectures that make complex biological concepts accessible to all learners. My teaching philosophy emphasizes equity, collaboration, and the practical application of scientific knowledge through fieldwork and research projects.In addition to my teaching expertise, I actively participate in professional development, including programs focused on equity in STEM education and creating a more inclusive curriculum. My mission is to inspire the next generation of scientists by supporting student engagement, promoting critical thinking, and integrating modern pedagogical practices in the classroom.
