Computers became \'affordable\' for most first-world households in the mid-1990s, and \'smart phones\' became affordable in most of the world from 2010 onwards. The Internet, wireless data communications, and satellite communications is for the most part \'signal\'- incidental amounts of energy and 3.3, 5, and 12 volt power levels. Technology now is trending more towards \'power\' and \'fabrication\', such as photovoltaic power, electric cars, robotic systems, 3D printers, and \'demand-driven production\'.The collection of components available to integrators and end users is expanding geometrically, and pricing is often trivial in comparison to historical norms. Some of this is driven by natural and predictable declines in technology costs, others by the introduction of potent competitors (such as manufacturers in various parts of Asia), some by collapsing commodity prices, and some by government incentives.As such, the number of economically viable product and service offerings is now greater than the total number people in the global workforce. There are now vast misallocations of labor in comparison to what is possible, resulting in underemployment, excessive debt, and increasingly, social disorder.It is now possible to bring what have traditionally been \'subscription\' services \'indoors\', such that someone replaces their power utility with solar panels, their water utility with a water recycling and reuse system, fuel purchases with fuel synthesis, and household assistants with maintenance and cleaning robotics. While such things are \'possible\', it doesn\'t mean such implementations will be widespread.It is increasingly useful to drill into the specific implications of robotics, AI,\'Big Data\', IoT, and related technological elements in order to develop appropriate adaptations. Most of the adaptation needs to be made by individuals - business entities can only implement what the workforce knows how to produce.

I have fifty years experience developing business oriented applications, generally focused on accounting, work-in-process, manufacturing, and software development tools. Most work has been \'full-stack\'- database (model), presentation layer (view), and business rules (controller). Recent technical background is focused on C#, SQL Server, WPF, UWP, Visual Studio 2022, Windows 10.NET Core (8.0), and AWS EC2.I have done significant work over 2019 in Power BI and the database operations needed for analytics, including amalgamating data from multiple agency databases and efficiently extracting concise metrics from large datasets. Projects since the have been largely focused on refactoring, reverse engineering, code migration, and database upgrades. Much of this has been ETL in some form or another, including extracting data from undocumented application flat files for import into relational databases. A number of recent projects have been focused on importing and \'cleaning up\' data from public record sources, including real estate (property tax rolls), elections and political campaigns, and federal government bidding and fulfillment.Many of these software projects have been performed on a 1099 contracting basis, often performed at home a few hours per day. This works well when it is necessary to \'smoke out\' the client\'s requirements - often the work occurs with very little formal direction, and usually no written specification. Users are not always able to articulate their objectives, or at least explain them in terms software developers understand.In many situations users have been left in situations of overdependency on critical employees or independent contractors. I write out instructions for system operation, access to third-party resources, and core functionality as needed to put business owners in direct control of their systems as much as possible. To the extent that such users are interested, I made them familiar with the core ideas behind databases, presentation-layer applications, data import and export, and so forth.Other interests range from mentoring, non-fiction writing, speculation on trends and future technologies, and \'wherever it leads\' research. Much of the research has been focused on renewable energy and certain related \'green topics\' such as CO2 capture, hydrocarbon fuel synthesis, and various forms of power storage.
