ABOUT MELODY KUZIWA JOMBE
When individuals see themselves represented in the spaces they inhabit, this creates belonging. Underrepresentation can thus lead to negative outcomes, particularly where this is accompanied by institutional and other systemic structures that further promote decreased belonging. Youths in Devonshire County face important decisions regarding education based on their internal aspirations and expectations. Our project aims to investigate and develop actions to effectively mitigate the effects of the lack of role models in U16 education and the short and long-term implications for belonging, progression and attainment.Currently we are working on a UKRI NercOutE grant that focuses on under 16 Black representation in Environmental and Natural Sciences.
