ABOUT MELANIE FOX

I have been an educator for more than 40 years and served diverse, rural, urban, and suburban communities in various capacities as a special education teacher, program director (for a private nonprofit), principal, and regional administrator. I believe deeply in educational equality and the desire to create a level playing field for all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, race, culture, special needs, or limited English ability. I additionally believe that high-quality public education is the foundation for our democracy, effective leadership is the key to any school’s success, and that one has a responsibility to nurture and mentor future school leaders. With extensive experience in building positive school climates and developing and mentoring school leaders to promote enhanced student performance, I have consulted on local, state and national levels regarding leadership for effective schools, served on many different state and national educational advisory boards, and published articles about parental and community involvement, technology trends in schools, multi-age classrooms, and team building. Further, I have presented on a variety of topics at conferences across the country. I have earned numerous recognitions, accolades, and awards throughout my career tenure. Some of those have included: multiple Principal of the Year awards, National Distinguished Principal, National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and multiple proclamations from Miami-Dade County, the City of Coral Gables, and the School Board of Miami-Dade County.Upon retiring from MCDPS in early 2017, I continue to provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development to educators and schools that focuses on building leadership capacity and teams, and enhancing teacher efficacy and student outcomes. I therefore welcome the opportunity to connect with colleagues, educators, and other administrators in both public and private education.
