ABOUT MEGHRAJ SENGUPTA

My niche is the field of Computational Plasma Physics. I develop and utilize high performance computation codes for simulation and modelling of plasma systems. My work so far, has specialized in the kinetic Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulation of non-self-inductive electrostatic plasmas, motivated by open questions related to their equilibrium, waves, instabilities, turbulence and transport properties. I have worked with partially magnetized ExB plasmas which are a hot topic in space propulsion and ion sourcing, as well as exotic non-neutral plasmas, a medium for vortex dynamics, antimatter physics, and quantum information processing. Device configurations that I have numerically modelled include the Hall thruster characterized by a radial inhomogeneous magnetic field, toroidal and partial toroidal magnetic traps having non-uniform toroidal magnetic fields, and linear configurations with straight uniform magnetic field such as the cylindrical magnetron and the Penning-Malmberg trap. Currently I am working on developing numerical experiments in the magnetic nozzle configuration. Future work plans include GPU parallelization of my codes for larger scale simulations and upgrading them to Electromagnetic PIC solvers to study high energy plasmas.
