ABOUT MEGAN HORSTHUIS

Hi! I’m a first-year MFA student in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia with a strong background in ecology, marine resource management, and computing.I hold an MSc in Aquaculture & Marine Resource Management from Wageningen University, where my graduate research focused on emerging strategies for data collection in extreme marine environments, notably the deep-sea and polar regions. I also have an Honours BSc from the University of Toronto in Environmental Science & Computer Science, where my research focused on the evolutionary biology of neotropical lizards. Outside of the university, you can find me trekking up mountains, looking for bugs under rocks, writing poetry, making films, cycling, and snorkelling!Lastly, I grew up as a settler on the unsurrendered and unceded land of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation, and therefore remain committed to upholding decolonial approaches to the co-production of broad ecological knowledge and understandings.
