ABOUT MEDI ZAKIZADEH
I’m a PhD student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine with a strong background in microbiology, protein biochemistry, and bioelectrochemistry. My research focuses on understanding how anaerobic bacteria transfer electrons through redox-active proteins for applications in energy and biotechnology. • 4+ years of research experience in microbial physiology, protein purification, and redox biochemistry • Extensive experience working with anaerobic bacteria, especially Geobacter sulfurreducens • Expertise in multiheme c-type cytochromes (OmcS, OmcE, OmcZ): protein purification, UV-Vis spectroscopy, redox titrations • Skilled in electrochemical techniques: cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), spectroelectrochemistry • Hands-on experience with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), SDS-PAGE, western blotting, and BCA assay • Proficient in molecular biology techniques: plasmid construction, bacterial transformation, CRISPR-Cas genome editing • Strong communicator with experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in microbiology and biochemistry labs • Interdisciplinary thinker passionate about applying experimental and computational approaches to biological questions
