ABOUT MAXIMILIAN DAVID FERST
I am a First-Class-Honours UCL graduate and MSc student at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Having an academic and professional background in international relations, public policy, and sustainable governance, I have specialised on Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Since 2018, I am a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German Academic Scholarship Foundation) and was accepted as a scholar into the “Metropolises in Eastern Europe” program of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Foundation (20••••21). For my masters at LSE, I was awarded the prestigious Haniel-fellowship, annually granted to six German students for postgraduate studies abroad. For my academic performance I have been nominated for the departmental UCL Deans List and have won the 2020 Margulies Yiddish Prize. My dissertation “Borderlanders: How the dual emergence of Zionism and Arab Nationalism undermined Arab-Jewish Identities” has been awarded the 2022 British and Irish Association for Jewish Studies (BIAJS) student essay prize. Moreover, I am holding a second prize in the national final of the 2017 German History Competition, two first prizes nationally in the German Youth Music Competition “Jugend musiziert” (violoncello: 2015, 2017) and placed 16th in the national final of the German youth debating competition, out of participants. For these extra-curricular achievements, I was invited by Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, German Federal Minister of Education and Research, to the 2017 “Day of Talents” in Berlin.
