Morie Pierce Smile has a long history of advocacy and engagement at the local, state, and national levels. A native of Virginia, she led membership development at a large national non-profit in Pennsylvania. She moved to Colorado and served in high-ranking staff positions as both a deputy political director and campaign manager. She later joined a telecommunications organization where as chief of staff, she produced a weekly news show coordinating political talent across the spectrum. She then became a development director for Bighorn Center for Public Policy, a non-partisan think tank where she partnered with AARP on \"Do Not Call\" legislation. Morie joined AARP in 2001 as the Colorado communications associate state director before becoming state director and later serving in interim executive roles at the regional level. Currently, she is Vice President of AARP’s Office of Community Engagement leading the enterprise-wide strategy for going local in communities nationwide. She is a graduate of Georgetown University’s Agl leadership program. Morie has also acted as president of the board for Foothills Art Center and as a board member of Volunteers of America and served on the Governor’s Commission for Community Service. She believes in the importance of building coalitions, an optimistic attitude and a lot of elbow grease. She and her husband Tim now live in Fort Myers, FL.
