ABOUT MATTHEW GRIFFITH

I am a forward-thinking leader focused on innovation across the academic and industrial research sectors. I have extensive experience working in Renewable Energy, Sensor Technologies, Biomedical Devices and University Lecturing. I am passionate about designing and delivering research activities that have impact for Australian industry. I am skilled in strategic development and research management. I am a innovative thinker with advanced skills in communication of complex problems, which allows me to engage people to identify and translate new research ideas. As an academic leader, I generate ideas and formulate research strategies across multiple projects. I attract funding, manage teams and projects, generate IP and communicate project outcomes at international conferences and in the peer reviewed literature. I take pride in mentoring the next-generation of science leaders, including undergraduate and PhD students, research assistants, and postdoctoral researchers. I have served on multiple professional networks at the national level, helping advise on academic activities, government engagement and public outreach. I have led substantial industry-linked research and innovation projects, building on my academic experience to translate laboratory innovations to applied product development for multiple national and international partners. This has allowed me to develop a broad understanding of commercializing innovation, building research partnerships, and influencing company executives to maximize the value of research outcomes.I am also passionate about public scientific outreach, and have been involved in a number of public lectures, school visits and developed workshops for school and university students to develop a passion for science in the younger generation. Most recently, I have become the host of the RACI (Royal Australian Chemical Institute) Podcast, which is the main outreach tool for Australia\'s national professional chemistry body.
