ABOUT MATT DOHERTY

I am a strategic IT leader with a passion for technology and its potential to drive organisational success, improving the lives of customers and users. I have a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams that design and implement innovative technology solutions; My career has been marked by a pursuit of excellence, combining innovation, effective team leadership, and a strong focus on aligning technology initiatives with business objectives.In my current role, I’ve led the IT arm of a ~£10m programme to modernise the capabilities and services for the Automatic Enrolment division of ‘The Pensions Regulator’. This involved re-architecting and re-platforming the estate, as well as introducing new components. The estate was insourced from a large 3rd party outsourcer in 2021, and was initially in a monolithic, difficult to change, cloud ‘lift-and-shift’ state. We built a strong team around the business services and made significant strides in decoupling the architecture, improving the reliability and modernising the workloads for the cloud.I am an innovative problem solver with a track record for successfully designing strategy and then making it a reality. I have led the transition from monolith systems to loosely coupled, event driven architectures; reorganised teams from technology silos, to business integrated, stream-aligned and platform teams that significantly increased the delivery cadence and quality of the team.I am also excellent at communicating the ‘why’ to colleagues, to bring them on the journey with me.
