As part of this role, I have conducted a wide range of ecological surveys and assessments for major infrastructure projects. This experience includes wintering bird surveys, bat surveys, and wildlife mitigation works, where I have developed a strong proficiency in species identification and ecological monitoring. Through this, I have accelerated my understanding of how to use specialist equipment, such as bat detectors, infrared cameras, and SM4’s, as well as field mapping tools like Field Maps for recording and assessing bird sightings and bat roost features. Projects I have worked on include- Wintering/breeding bird surveys/report writing for wind/solar energy parks and housing developments- Assisting with badger sett inspections and water vole mitigation.Recently, I have also begun managing my own small-scale projects, including for National Grid infrastructure and housing developments. This has helped me develop my relationship with clients to ensure the best possible outcome and has also involved communicating with my colleagues to make sure they are aware of all the health & safety and ecological risks involved.
