WORK HISTORY
Chief Product & Technology Officer @OVO
Stepped into the interim CPTO role in November 2025 to steady the product and technology function during a period of organisational change. Reorganised the team around AI, data and automation to shift OVO from a reactive service platform to one built for predictive, personalised customer engagement. My focus is creating and capturing value — working with OVO’s technology partners to accelerate delivery, reduce cost to serve and unlock new commercial opportunities across the platform. Building the tech and data foundation for what comes next.

ABOUT MOAKES
I’m an exec leader, CEO and founder who has spent twenty years solving customer problems in new ways — then building the businesses to prove they work. Energy, automotive, insurance, home services: different industries, same instinct. Spot where customers are underserved, build something novel, scale it with technology, AI and commercial discipline. I’ve done it as a founder, startup CEO, scale up operator and corporate leader — across private equity, corporate venture and listed environments, with full P&L accountability and a focus on growth and value creation.Since late 2022 I’ve been Chief Commercial Officer at OVO Energy, and since last year Chief Product and Technology Officer too — leading strategy, sales, marketing, propositions, product and technology for 3.8m customers. I joined because of OVO’s Plan Zero decarbonisation mission, arriving after the SSE acquisition, and have led through the energy crisis, getting the merged platform into shape while continuing to build. I’ve launched OVO Beyond, growing to over 700k customers in six months, built an EV business, partnering with Volkswagen Group and Volvo including a UK first blended charging proposition, created a solar and heating venture with a franchise model, and chaired Home Services back to growth. Before OVO I was founding UK CEO of heycar, a corporate venture backed by VW, Mercedes-Benz, Allianz and Renault. Automotive retail at a point of inflection — Covid accelerating e-commerce, buy and build reshaping the market, OEM backers betting on a new model. I built the team, product and tech platform, scaled aggressively, then set the commercial playbook across all heycar markets as Group CCO.I founded Local Heroes inside British Gas — a skunk works venture solving home repairs while fundamentally challenging the parent business. Built the investment case, didn’t expect to get the money, then launched in Croydon with two plumbers called Craig. We scaled to tradespeople across the UK and Ireland, hundreds of thousands of jobs, tens of millions in GMV and NPS in the 80s. All the intensity of a founder with the dexterity to make it work inside a big corporate. My first book, Green But Not Heard, argues that decarbonisation is no longer a technology problem — it’s a marketing one. I’m optimistic about net zero, but the real challenge is consumer adoption. If we think like marketeers we can shift behaviour at scale.
