ABOUT MARSHA WELCH

I have 25 years of experience working in the field of archaeology in the eastern US. I have excellent lab and field supervisory experience, and extensive experience with implementing the Section 106 process. Throughout the course of my career I have obtained security clearance and worked on several military installations, linear pipeline surveys, and large scale phase excavations. Each project I have been involved in has been a learning experience and enlightened me as an archaeologist. I have been trained in technical writing during my degree, and have experience with technical writing within my career. I have researched and aided in preparing project proposals and CRM reports and have learned the value of communicating clearly verbally and in writing.My Thesis topic covers slavery in the South Carolina lowcountry; which includes understanding how an artifact assemblage can be quantitatively used to determine area utilization, ethnic markers within an assemblage, and the historical understanding of status and class within the South Carolina plantation system.I have extensive experience within the southeastern region, but have studied and worked in a number of regions within the eastern US. My lab experiences include working with colonial and antebellum period sites and artifact assemblages, data and data management using relational databases, and have used Excel, Access and ArcGIS during my career and graduate program. I have excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills.
