ABOUT MARIUS REDELINGHUYS

Lawyer with over a decade of experience in public policy, governance, and legislative reform. I bring a distinctive blend of legal acumen, strategic insight, and public service commitment to the legal profession.I am admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Supreme Court of South Australia, having earned my Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with Distinction from Leo Cussen Centre for Law. I was honoured with both the “Excellence in Advocacy” and “The Whole Lawyer” awards, recognising my technical proficiency, courtroom readiness, and human-centred approach to legal practice. My legal education includes an LLB with Distinction from the University of the Free State and completion of Priestley 11 subjects in Australian Constitutional Law, Property and Land Law, and Equity and Trusts at Deakin University.My legal experience includes a clerkship at PGC Legal, a commercial law firm in Adelaide, where I supported litigation, dispute resolution, and property transactions. I contributed to legal research, drafting of court documents and client correspondence, and case preparation across multiple practice areas.Prior to entering legal practice, I held senior roles in emergency management across South Australia and Victoria, including as Manager Emergency Management in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (SA), and Manager Emergency Operations and Policy in the Department of Government Services (VIC). I led legislative reform, policy development, and intergovernmental coordination, including the successful passage of the Emergency Management (Miscellaneous) Bill 2024 (SA).Earlier in my career, I served as a Member of Parliament in South Africa’s National Assembly, contributing to legislative reform and oversight of the criminal justice system. I also held strategic support roles in metropolitan government, advising political leaders on public safety, emergency services, and community development.My core legal competencies include legal research and writing, statutory interpretation, advocacy, and client interviewing, complemented by professional strengths in policy analysis, governance, and stakeholder engagement. I am proficient in Lexis Advance, Westlaw AU, and Practice Evolve.I am passionate about using law as a tool for public good and seek opportunities to contribute meaningfully to legal practice in areas such as constitutional and administrative law, criminal law, employment law, and legal advisory roles.
