ABOUT MARILYN S.
Marilyn Spink is an award-winning professional engineer and expert in metallurgical & mining processes, having spent over 25 years managing the delivery of complex mine development projects throughout the world. Today, she lends her considerable know how leading an advisory practice, GS Group, serving as a trusted advisor to a wide range of global clients. Marilyn began her career in mechanical design and transitioned to steel-making operations after completing a metallurgical engineering degree at Queen’s University. In progressive leadership roles of increasing responsibility, she managed multi-discipline engineering design teams in delivering complex mining capital projects in North and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia ranging in value from $US500M to $9B. In addition to her distinguished engineering career, all the more impressive in a field where so few women practise, Marilyn has been an ardent advocate and inspirational role model for women in the engineering profession. As a thought leader, she has been featured in several high-profile and influential articles on diversity and inclusion and is a sought-after speaker in the Mining and Engineering sectors, most recently being named a Canadian Institute of Mining Distinguished Lecturer in 2018. She was also honoured to be selected as a panelist for the Global Manufacturing & Industrialization Summit hosted by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and their Institute for Gender and the Economy, an international research body to facilitate women’s full participation in the economy. For her tireless work with Scientists in the Schools in igniting female elementary students’ interests in science and engineering, in 2017, Marilyn was awarded an Ontario Women’s Directorate Leading Women, Leading Girls Award. In 2020 she was recognized by Women in Mining UK\'s Top 100 Women in Mining. A member of the Institute of Corporate Directors since 2008, Marilyn also serves as a Director on several corporate boards. Most recently, she completed two three-year term appointments as an Ontario Lieutenant Governor Appointee to Professional Engineers Ontario Council, the largest engineering regulator in Canada with over members. She is a former Director of Avalon Advanced Materials Inc, a mineral development company focused on materials used in clean energy and new technology and a current director on the board of Star Diamond Corp. Marilyn is based in Toronto, Ontario CANADA.
