ABOUT DAN FURST
I have two decades of experience in governance, transactions and operations in the technology, privacy, data and AI spaces. From my Calgary base, I provide bilingual (French and English) strategic support and expertise to clients, with particular expertise in the IT services and energy industries (conventional and cleantech). My goals in serving clients are to: Be a strategic business advisor when developing, understanding and implementing legal goals and strategies within an overall business context Drive operational excellence in how work is delivered and executed. Always ensuring that the legal tail never wags the corporate dog Technology: I was the lead technology lawyer for Suncor Energy where I advised upon and negotiated all types of IT transactions along with research, development and implementation deals of all levels of complexity for energy technology. I\'m currently an executive in residence at Foresight Canada, in support of emerging cleantech companies. Previously I sat on the board of Platform Calgary, helping to oversee governance for the community-facing technology accelerator in southern Alberta. Privacy and Operations: I led privacy operations for Suncor Energy as its director of enterprise privacy and led a team to oversee and develop the corporate privacy program as well as AI governance and records and information management. For clients, I have built legal risk management as a program to efficiently manage contracting volume and effectively use limited legal resources, both with and without dedicated supply chain or procurement teams. I co-manage the Canadian Privacy Bar section group of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and sit on the AI committee of the Canadian Technology Law Association.
