ABOUT MARIANA SALAZAR ALBORNOZ

Mariana Salazar Albornoz is an international lawyer with 20+ years of experience in multilateral affairs. She has a proven record advising governments, businesses and civil society on multi-stakeholder strategic engagement, international law and international affairs. She specializes in Public International Law, International Criminal, Humanitarian & Human Rights Law, Cyberdiplomacy and Digital Law/Policy.In the government sector, Mariana served for 13 years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (20••••18), as Coordinator of International Law and Director for International Humanitarian & Criminal Law in the Office of the Legal Advisor, and, previously, as Director for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in the Human Rights and Democracy section.In international organizations, Mariana is currently a Member of the Board of the United Nations’ Register of Damage, per appointment by the UN Secretary-General (2023-present). Previously she was a Member of the InterAmerican Juridical Committee of the Organization of American States (20••••22), per election of the OAS’ Member States, where she was rapporteur on International Law applicable to Cyberspace and on Privacy and Data Protection.In the private sector, Mariana was Director & General Counsel of onepoint52•••••25), a consulting firm focused on climate change diplomacy, as well as Regional Manager for Mexico and Central America of the Asociación Lationamericana de Internet -ALAI (20••••24), where she conducted government affairs on digital law & policy for the region\'s leading tech companies. Her early career practice was in major corporate law firms in Mexico City. Mariana combines her professional practice with collaboration with academia, think-tanks and humanitarian institutions. She is currently Adjunct Professor both at IE University in Madrid (2025-present) and at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City (2014-present). She is Coordinator of the International Law Unit of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations-COMEXI (2024-present). Previously, she was a Member of the Editorial Board of the International Review of the Red Cross (20••••25) and was Academic Programs Associate for International Law & Latin America at the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (20••••23). A frequent public speaker and published author, Mariana holds a Law Degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and a Master’s Degree (DEA) in International Relations specialized in International Law from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva.
