As a Renal Histotechnologist at the University of Miami, I specialize in performing advanced diagnostic and research procedures on renal and related tissue specimens. My role involves hands-on, on-site evaluation and processing of renal biopsies, with a focus on glomerular identification using both traditional and digital pathology techniques.I conduct direct immunofluorescence (DIF) tests on renal biopsies, including antibody validation for immunofluorescence, ensuring the highest accuracy in detecting antigen-antibody interactions. I also utilize the JEOL JEM-1400 electron microscope to perform detailed electron microscopy on renal samples, examining ultrastructural changes in kidney tissue to support complex diagnoses.In addition to renal work, I handle muscle biopsies, using liquid nitrogen for rapid freezing to preserve tissue integrity, and stain muscle biopsy slides for neuropathology. I also perform frozen section staining for dermatopathology, ensuring high-quality preparations for diagnostic evaluation.I collaborate closely with pathologists, researchers, and clinicians to provide crucial insights and help guide both clinical and research efforts. I also train and mentor junior staff and students in various histology techniques, fostering knowledge-sharing and innovation within our lab.My work at the University of Miami combines cutting-edge technology with deep expertise in renal pathology, contributing to critical research and clinical decision-making in the field of nephrology.
