The SDPO is responsible for the safe station keeping of the unit. He is the primary operator and watch keeper at the Dynamic Positioning, DP, control desk and the senior watch keeper in the Central Control Room, CCR.The SDPO operates and monitors the DP system when in DP mode and monitors logistical operations associated with the unit.When underway the SDPO is the senior watch keeping officer on the bridge.Furthermore the SDPO is responsible for:Maintaining a safe navigational watch in transit and drilling mode as per the requirements of the STCW Code Section Standards Regarding Watch keepingEnsuring that the OIM is kept fully informed of ongoing and proposed operations that may affect the position keeping, the stability and the safety of the rig and its personnelNotifying the OIM when instrument readings deviate from planned values or when abnormal trends are detectedKeeping the Rig Floor and Engine Room crews fully informed regarding the DP status. Reference should be made to the OIM\'s Standing OrdersEnsuring that any faults in the DP system are reported in due time to the OIM and to the relevant rig departments and that these faults are duly recorded in the DP faults logbookEnsuring that all mandatory and statutory nautical publications are kept up to date and in good orderGiving permission for other vessels coming within the rig\'s 500m safety zone ensuring that the checklist for vessels entering the safety zone is completed and that direct communications are available and tested between the rig and the support vessel.When connected the SDPO is not to leave the Central Control Room.The SDPO is delegated the authority required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties listed in this job description including actions preceding a Yellow and a Red DP alert status and instigating a Yellow or a Red DP alert status.
