ABOUT LUCA VALENTI
I am responsible for the Biological Resource Center - Precision Medicine Unit and Omics Lab of Fondazione IRCCS Ca\' Granda Policlinico hospital, University of Milan as an internist and clinical hepatologist, at the Dept of Transfusion Medicine.I design and coordinate clinical translational research and spontaneous clinical trials in the area of steatotic/fatty liver disease (SLD), genetics and iron overload disorders.I coordinate a Research Laboratory of Translational Medicine at Fondazione Ca\' Granda and Università degli Studi di Milano. My main research interest are represent by the genetics of liver diseases and in particular SLD and iron overload, and the relationship between iron metabolism and insulin resistance. We conduct genetic studies in well characterized clinical and population-based cohorts, coupled with translational research with evaluation of biomarkers and biological pathways in clinical samples, and experimental studies in vitro and in vivo.A major focus in the last years has been devoted to the elucidation of the role of genetic variants regulating hepatic lipid metabolism (in particular PNPLA3) and insulin resistance in the progression towards liver fibrosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and cardiometabolic events, exploring mechanisms and clinical implications for the patients. In parallel, we are contributing to the study of genetic susceptibility to develop COVID-19 and its complications, including long COVID.The major goal is to improve clinical risk stratification and develop innovative treatments for metabolic & ResearcherID: B-36••••09 SCOPUS: 70••••••55
