I am currently a Full Professor in the Psychology Department at Brooklyn College where I was hired as an Assistant Professor immediately after obtaining my Ph.D. I am also heavily involved in efforts to increase diversity in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in college, graduate schools, and in the professions and to improve college teaching based on sound psychological principles of how people learn.

ABOUT LOUISE HAINLINE
I am a developmental psychologist with research interests in the development of infant vision and developmental behavioral neuroscience, with a focus on the assessment of early visual disorders and studies of the oculomotor system. This work has been heavily funded by federal grants. My teaching interests at the undergraduate and graduate levels are in the areas of infancy, developmental psychology, human cognition in complex settings, higher education in the US, research methods and experimental design, and preparing doctoral students for college teaching.I served more than a decade in academic administration as Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. While in this position and after returning to the faculty, I have obtained funding for and directed several programs to enhance the success of under-represented students in the sciences. These programs have, assisted many students to pursue research doctorates at some of the most competitive research universities in the country and to enter professional positions in the fields of science and technology. As a long-time CUNY faculty member, I am deeply committed to CUNY\'s mission of access to higher education for individuals who might not, except for CUNY, achieve college degrees. In parallel, I have used my psychology background to work with national organizations such as the Council of Undergraduate Research and Project Kaleidoscope to improve the teaching of science at the college level. My most recent research has been on how people learn, particularly in higher education and in the sciences, the effectiveness of different types of science pedagogy, and the psychological challenges confronted by under-represented students in academic settings. An experienced grant writer and program evaluator, I have written and/or been a principal investigator on external research and program grants totaling more than since 1973 for both research and institutional program projects.
